چکیده

The Aspect Camera on the Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) on Yohkoh has provided a unique database of white-light ares (WLFs). Coincident HXR and SXR observations give a unique opportunity to study the relationship between these diierent emissions and investigate the origins of the white-light emission. We have found that the spatial and temporal coincidence between impulsive white-light and HXR emission is good but not exact and the case for the gradual white-light emission requires further investigation. Using the a list of Yohkoh WLFs observed prior to the failure of the Aspect Camera in 1992 we investigate the spatial and temporal relationship between the gradual white-light emission and both the HXR and SXR emission in an attempt to identify its origins.

Looptop Hard X-ray Emission in Solar Flares: Images and Statistics

The discovery of hard X-ray sources near the top of a flaring loop by the HXT instrument on board the YOHKOH satellite represents a significant progress towards the understanding of the basic processes driving solar flares. In this paper we extend the previous study of limb flares by Masuda (1994) by including all YOHKOH observations up through August 1998. We report that from October 1991 to A...

Looptop and Footpoint Impulsive Hard X-rays and Stochastic Electron Acceleration in Flares

The discovery of hard X-rays from tops of flaring loops by the HXT of YOHKOH represents a significant progress in the understanding of solar flares. This report describes the properties of 20 limb flares observed by YOHKOH from October 1991 to August 1998, 15 of which show detectable impulsive looptop emission. Considering the finite dynamic range (about a decade) of the detection it can be con...

Yohkoh and Non-thermality in Flares

The Yohkoh observatory carries X-ray instrumentation capable of almost de nitive are observations within its resolution limits of a few arc seconds. The data con rm the energetic predominance of the impulsive phase in are development, interpreting this phase as the epoch of non-thermality (the heating process). The clues include the behavior of sources at the feet of coronal loops, including ha...

TRACE and Yohkoh Observations of High-Temperature Plasma in a Two-Ribbon Limb Flare.

The ability of the Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE) to image solar plasma over a wide range of temperatures (Te approximately 104-107 K) at high spatial resolution (0&farcs;5 pixels) makes it a unique instrument for observing solar flares. We present TRACE and Yohkoh observations of an M2.4 two-ribbon flare that began on 1999 July 25 at about 13:08 UT. We observe impulsive footpoi...

Flare Observations.

Solar flares are observed at all wavelengths from decameter radio waves to gamma-rays at 100 MeV. This review focuses on recent observations in EUV, soft and hard X-rays, white light, and radio waves. Space missions such as RHESSI, Yohkoh, TRACE, and SOHO have enlarged widely the observational base. They have revealed a number of surprises: Coronal sources appear before the hard X-ray emission ...
